This is one of a number of portrait sketches completed in a 2 hour time-frame
A live portrait of 18yr old girl who didn't have time for the two hour session so we were going to spread it over two weeks.
I was chucking on the underpainting with a measured wrecklessness, knowing that the intervening week between sittings would afford me the option of picking up a pallette knife and continuing an impasto approach; or adopting a more conservative approach and just using the tonal profile established.
She was so impressed she never showed up for the next session....I didn't mind. I rather like the energy and exposure of unfinished process.
I have a growing collection of unfinished paintings that I know would spoil were I to continue
